NEW Gorsedh Kernow publication
Cornish Bards of Australia and New Zealand/Berdh Kernow Ostrali ha Mordir Nowydh
The book’s preamble says: “Cornish men and women settled in many parts of the world, often leaving Cornwall when work in the Cornish mines was difficult to find and mining skills were in demand in Australia, South Africa, California and elsewhere. These settlers were proud of their ancestry and their families grew up learning about Cornish history, culture and heritage
At the time of writing of this book (July, 2016) there were 47 bards living in Australia and 3 New Zealand. There are also 37 deceased bards, so the book records the biographies of 87 bards”. The stories are both fascinating and instructive. Their love of Cornwall flows from the pages.
This is the seventh book in a planned series. It was launched in September, 2016 during the Ethesvos preceding the Open Gorsedh Ceremony at St. Keverne, Cornwall. The next such book underway for 2017 will be “Cornish Bards of the Launceston Area”.
