Competition to compose a short lullaby

COMPETITION OPEN TO ALL OF THE CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE OF CORNWALL!
Announcing a Cornwall Wide Competition for children organised by Cornwall Music Therapy Trust in conjunction with the St Piran’s Festival – Redruth – planning group.

THE COMPETITION

TO COMPOSE A SHORT LULLABY (MAXIMUM THREE VERSES) WHICH REFERS TO THE STORY OF ST PIRAN, THE PATRON SAINT OF CORNISH TIN MINERS.

stpiran_ivallWHAT IS A LULLABY?

A lullaby is a restful, somnambulant song with a slow beat never faster than a human heartbeat. It is usually sung or hummed by a mother or father to calm their child and help them off to sleep. The music is often simple and repetitive and also helps calm the mother or father too.
Research has revealed that music therapy in the form of gentle lullabies not only slows down the heart rate of prematurely delivered babies but also helps them feed and sleep better. This helps them gain weight and speeds their recovery.
A lullaby sung by mother or father can also help strengthen an emotional bond with their child.
The lullaby might, for instance, refer to the following elements of the St Piran story:
‘St Piran was tied to a mill-stone and rolled over the edge of a cliff in Ireland into a stormy sea. The waters immediately became calm, and the saint floated safely over the water to land upon the sandy beach of Perranzanbuloe in Cornwall. His first disciples were said to be a badger, a fox and a bear.’ (Ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Piran)
