Mebyon Kernow wins Wendron by-election

Loveday Jenkin, standing for Mebyon Kernow, has been clearly elected to Cornwall Council (Konsel Kernow) in the by-election for Wendron caused by the sudden death of Independent Councillor Mike Clayton.
This win raises the number of Mebyon Kernow Cornwall Councillors to five.
The results were:
Loveday Jenkin, Mebyon Kernow – The Party for Cornwall 427 – 36.4% (+16.4)  ELECTED
John Martin, Liberal Democrat  262 – 22.3% (+12.3)
Linda Taylor, Conservative 227 – 19.4% (+3.4)
Phil Martin, Independent 177 – 15.1% (-16.9)
Robert Webber, Labour 80 – 6.8% (+3.8)
27.84% turnout
Dr Loveday Jenkin, who increased her vote by more than double, is a Crowan Parish Councillor and was a long-standing member of Kerrier District Council prior to its abolition in 2009 due to the Liberal Democrat and Labour creation of a Unitary Authority for the whole of the Duchy.
She will bring great depth of knowledge and understanding of both local and Cornwall-wide issues to bear at Lys Kernow.
